Supported Employment
Our Job Coach program provides invaluable support in community-based jobs for people with disabilities and special needs. Job coaches work with such individuals employed at various businesses to teach and help them maintain the skills needed to perform specific jobs.
Mobile Work Crews
With the help of agency staff, groups of people with disabilities and special needs are supported as they work in the community at various businesses that provide contract work, such as landscaping and janitorial services.
Center-Based Services
Licensed by the Department of Labor, our Venture Industries program provides social and vocational support in a center-based work setting. Participating persons with disabilities and special needs work on in-house contracts and receive competitive wages for work performed on behalf of community businesses.
Enclaves
Groups of individuals with disabilities and special needs perform various jobs in businesses, factories, warehouses, etc., with the support of agency staff. These integrated work settings provide opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to work side by side on the same job.
Day Activity
The Dorchester Board of Disabilities and Special Needs offers non-work activities for people with disabilities and special needs who have reached retirement age and who choose to stop working. Such day activities are both center and community-based.
Self-Advocacy
Our self-advocacy group provides a forum for individuals with disabilities and special needs to come together and learn how to speak for themselves and make independent decisions. The group works to promote awareness of each person's rights and responsibilities through activities, projects, and social events.
