Early Intervention

Early Start works through the Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs to provide early intervention services to children birth to age five and their families. These services are provided at no cost to families, no matter what their income. Early Start is a BabyNet provider for Dorchester County.

Early Start serves children with differing conditions and abilities including:

  • Prematurity and low birth weight
  • Developmental delays
  • Genetic conditions
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Speech and communication delays
  • Cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders
  • Medical conditions

Why Early Intervention?

An early interventionist will conduct a thorough development evaluation to assess your child’s unique strengths and needs. We will assist your family with referrals to other specialists, therapists, or resources as needed. Together, we will build a plan to help your family and child reach their potential. Our goal is to empower your family to meet your child’s needs and to assist you in learning to be an advocate for your child.
