Family Support Services

Case Management

The role of case management is to identify, with the assistance of the consumer, family, and others involved, the needs of each individual person and the resources available to meet those needs. Case managers work with individuals and their families to explore options and to make informed decisions. Please call the Director of Family Support Services at (843) 376-5623 for more information about the intake, referral and assessment procedures.

Home and Community Based Waivers

Dorchester County administers the Intellectual Disability/Related Disability Waiver (IR/RD), Community Supports Waiver (CSW) and the Pervasive Developmental Disability Waiver (PDD). The Head and Spinal Cord Waiver (HASCI) is administered by the Disabilities Board of Charleston County. The focus of each waiver is to allow people who require institutional care to remain in their home with added supports. Availability of waiver slots is determined by SCDDSN. The services funded are based on assessed needs and cost effectiveness. For more information on the Home and Community Based Waivers please contact your case manager, early interventionist or the Director of Family Support Services at (843) 376-5623.

Respite

Respite provides short-term rest and relief for families of individuals receiving services. Respite is provided in the home of the individual and is family arranged. Respite services are arranged through your case manager or early interventionist. Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs also offers Saturday Recreation activities through our respite program. Activities are scheduled one Saturday each month for eligible adults. For more information about respite, please contact your case manager, early interventionist or the Director of Family Support Services at (843) 376-5623.

Summer Services

Summer services are available to any school-aged child who is SCDDSN eligible. This program is intended to give families financial assistance for their child to participate in summer camps or other summer activities in the community. For more information about summer services please contact your case manager, early interventionist or the Director of Family Support Services at (843) 376-5623.
